Gas Infrared Systems / Embedded Combustion

Marsden's flagship product is it's unique Gas IR Emitter. These emitters utilize Marsden's proprietary technology, called Embedded Combustion, to transfer more than three times the IR flux than metal fiber surface combustion burners per unit of fuel input.

Embedded Combustion has changed the way the industry goes about the challenges of non-contact IR drying and IR curing. It is a process that directs the combustion of the gas/air premix to initiate 1/8" within the outer surface of the 1" thick infrared emitter. This increases the emitter/hot gas contact surface area and residence time while also reducing the temperature difference between the IR emitter structure and the hot gases leaving the IR emitter.

The result?

A more powerful, more efficient, more environmentally-friendly, and more cost-effective infrared drying system as compared to surface combustion or impingement style infrared burners.

Marsden's engineering group performs 3D Solids Modeling using AutoCAD to custom design each Marsden IR System.

Each system is engineered to minimize machine space requirements and floor space requirements by supplying systems with:

Gas IR Trial Systems

Process solutions may be tested using our customized trial units, which are installed on machine. These tests have proven to be a great tool for Marsden customers, allowing them to see for themselves the benefits that Embedded Combustion technology will have on their operations. It affords them the opportunity to validate a process solution before installing an actual production system.

Gas IR  Trial Systems

Each Marsden IR trial system can be operated with natural gas or propane gas and is set up for quick confirmation of the effectiveness of thermal radiation as part of the drying scheme.

Results are extrapolated to size a full scale Marsden IR production system.


Embedded Combustion Product Line

Marsden is proud to offer 4 unique products, each of which utilizes our proprietary Embedded Combustion technology and is customized for each specific application. Every system is complete with Drying Frames ready to mount to existing framework, skid mounted combustion control equipment, and a control panel.


Airseal

Airseal

Continuous radiant emitters are supplied in one-row, two-row or three-row frames. Machine-direction radiant dimensions up to 14" (280 mm) with a maximum CD dimension of 225" (5700 mm) per row allow for uniform heating across the entire substrate.

Each row can be independently modulated in output from 0%-100% to maintain sheet temperature set points to within +/- 5°F. Both manual and automatic control is available. Each drying frame can be equipped with an air delivery system that promotes evaporation while evacuating the moisture and combustion products from the work area.

Individual rows can be zoned to accommodate varying sheet widths.



Modular IR

Individual modular emitters with radiant machine-direction dimensions up to 42 " MD x 115" CD (1066 mm x 380 mm) allow for the maximum power output in the most compact space.
Modular drying frames are available in 42", 40", 29.5", 24", 16" & 12" radiant machine-direction sizes to most accurately meet specific application space and heat transfer requirements. Radiant cross machine-direction dimensions are attained in excess of 300" (7600 mm).

Now individual Drying Frames can be supplied with multiple rows of Emitters. Each row is independently controlled further enhancing the systems flexibility.

Each row can be independently modulated in output from 0%-100% to maintain sheet temperature set points to within +/- 5°F. Both manual and automatic control is available.

Each drying frame can be equipped with an air delivery system that promotes evaporation while evacuating the moisture and combustion products from the work area.

Individual rows can be zoned to accommodate varying sheet widths or for edge drying purposes.

Moisture  Profiler

Moisture Profiler

To correct cross-machine moisture profile variability, the Modular IR System can be designed with CD zones to as narrow as 3". Each individual zone can be automatically modulated from 0%-100%. Each zone is modulated on ratio to maintain fuel efficiency.

Moisture profiling frames are available in 42", 40", 31.5", 29.5", 24", 16" & 12" radiant machine-direction sizes to most accurately meet specific application space and heat transfer requirements. Radiant cross machine-direction dimensions are attained up to 300" (7600 mm).

Each drying frame can be equipped with an air delivery system that promotes evaporation while evacuating the moisture and combustion products from the work area.

Profiling systems can be interfaced with coat weight control systems and a variety of DCS control systems to accurately and automatically correct CD web moisture variability.



Air by Marsden (Combination Air/IR System)

Applications that require the highest evaporation rates along with sheet stabilization will benefit from AIR by MARSDEN.

Integrating MARSDEN IR Systems with air foils following the IR Drying Frames offers the best combination of high quality production and energy efficiency with 80% + system gas energy efficiency.

Separating the air foils from the IR eliminates problems with very high temperature exhaust products that impinge upon the sheet surface and that displace the IR flame front. AIR by MARSDEN provides effective, efficient and reliable heat transfer for the most demanding applications.
